The Ministerial Committee for Development and Infrastructure Projects has underscored the importance of major development projects and their timely implementation in line with approved plans.
The committee, in a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, reviewed the latest developments concerning the tender for a new package of works under the Bahrain International Airport Access Roads Development Project, as well as the tender for the development of more than 2,500 integrated housing units in Khalifa City in partnership with the private sector under the Government Land Development Rights Programme.
As part of Bahrain’s presidency of the 46th session of the Supreme Council of the GCC, the committee praised the outcomes of the 38th GCC Agricultural Co-operation and Food Security Committee meeting, hosted by Bahrain. The committee highlighted the decisions reached at the meeting in support of joint GCC action and efforts to achieve greater integration in food security and sustainable agricultural development.
The committee highlighted the joint arrangements allowing licensed taxis in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia to transport passengers via the King Fahad Causeway in accordance with approved regulations and requirements.
It noted the importance of the service in providing flexible and safe transport options and facilitating the movement of citizens and visitors, supporting smooth traffic flow and enhancing integration and connectivity between the two countries.
The committee congratulated the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry on receiving two awards at the GCC Green Mobility Forum 2026.
It also noted that Bahrain International Airport’s four recognitions from Airports Council International (ACI) reflect the efficiency and competitiveness of the airport’s operations.
The committee welcomed the Supreme Council for Environment’s development of a range of advanced digital government services.
The committee discussed the items on its agenda and reviewed progress in implementing the initiatives and projects of Bahrain’s Real Estate Sector Development Plan.
It underscored the importance of continuing efforts to develop the sector, contributing to the national economy and achieving the intended development objectives.
The committee reviewed priorities for infrastructure and service projects and their implementation requirements ahead of incorporating their financial estimates into the draft state general budget for the 2027-2028 fiscal years, ensuring the continued implementation of these projects in accordance with their specified timelines.
The committee approved in principle proposals to enhance the readiness of fibre-optic network infrastructure by incorporating related requirements into construction regulations and building permits. It tasked the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry with co-ordinating with the relevant entities to complete the necessary legal frameworks.
