Members of the Hindu community in Bahrain gathered over the weekend for a fun morning as part of ongoing ‘Janmashtami’ celebrations.
More than 1,100 people attended the ‘Makhan Matki Phod’ (Hindi: breaking of the earthen pot) at the Shrinathji Shri Krishna Temple on Friday.
The event was hosted by the Thattai Hindu Community and was held in the presence of several ambassadors and diplomatic staff members.
“The ‘Makhan Matki Phod’ ritual celebrates the playful childhood legends of Lord Krishna through a test of strength and co-ordination, as teams build human towers to break suspended butter pots (Makhan Matkis),” a spokesperson from the Thattai Hindu Community explained in a statement.
“Designed for inclusive community participation, this year’s setup featured two separate height-adjusted pots: one for child participants and another for adult teams.”
The event highlighted the community’s rich cultural heritage and brought together devotees in joyful worship and camaraderie.
Krishna Janmashtami is a major Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu.
