Fifty bags of rubbish were hauled from a Bahrain beach as members of the Bangladesh Youth Club Bahrain rolled up their sleeves for a community clean-up drive ahead of today’s World Cleanup Day 2026.
Around 50 members gathered at Karbabad Beach in the Seef area on Friday, turning their morning into a hands-on environmental effort to help keep one of Bahrain’s public spaces clean and welcoming.
The volunteers collected large quantities of waste, including plastic bags, bottles and other discarded items scattered around the beach.
The initiative was organised as part of the club’s ongoing social work programme, through which its members regularly take part in community activities across different sectors.
For the organisers, the beach clean-up was also a way for members of Bahrain’s Bangladeshi community to give back to the country they call home. “Our motto is to keep Bahrain clean and healthy for everyone while we, as expatriates, enjoy Bahrain’s culture and heritage,” a spokesman said.
The initiative was held ahead of World Cleanup Day 2026, reinforcing the message that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility that extends beyond nationalities and communities.
The volunteers’ efforts also highlighted the role expatriate organisations can play in supporting local environmental and community initiatives.
World Cleanup Day 2026 aims to unite millions of volunteers across more than 190 countries to tackle the global waste crisis.
