The national press plays a pivotal role in supporting Bahrain’s development process, documenting its various stages, and highlighting national projects and achievements, Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak has affirmed.
He stressed the importance of maintaining communication with Press and media institutions and highlighting to them the progress of municipal work and its development across various fields.
The minister was speaking during a visit by a number of editors-in-chief, managing editors and representatives of local newspapers to the historic Manama Municipality building. The visit provided an opportunity to view the historic building following its rehabilitation and learn about the efforts made to preserve its historical identity and highlight its architectural features.
He noted that the development and modernisation of municipal work constitutes part of the kingdom’s comprehensive development process under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
“Municipal work in Bahrain dates back more than a century, since the establishment of Manama Municipality in 1919 during the reign of His Highness Isa Al Kabeer, Ruler of Bahrain and its Dependencies, the founder of the modern state and a leading figure in Bahrain’s institutional renaissance,” Mr Al Mubarak said.
“This contributed to laying the foundations of modern municipal administration, developing public services, and supporting urban development.”
He also noted that the rehabilitation of the Manama Municipality building, which was opened in 1962 during the reign of the late His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, reflects the kingdom’s commitment to preserving its institutional and historical heritage.
He expressed his appreciation to the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities for its significant efforts in rehabilitating the building while preserving its original appearance and historical value.
