TRIATHLON – BAHRAIN’S Omar Hamza claimed a solid top 20 finish yesterday in the men’s triathlon individual final at the 20th Asian Games.
Competing amongst a field of 33 triathletes from 20 countries, Hamza completed the race at Gamagori City Triathlon Venue in 19th place in a total time of 56 minutes and 50 seconds.
His splits across the 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike ride, and five-km run were 9:42, 29:26, and 16:42.
The 26-year-old finished not far behind gold medal winner Takumi Hojo of Japan, who had a mark of 52:56. Xirui Zhang of China was the silver-medallist in 53:05, while Arlan Zhanabay from Kazakhstan claimed bronze in 53:11.
Attending yesterday’s race were Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) executive director of operations and Bahrain’s chef de mission in Aichi-Nagoya Ahmed Abdulghaffar, BOC sports project management director Lounes Madene, and other delegation officials.
