The Singaporean government has launched a pilot matchmaking service called FirstDate in a fresh bid to boost national marriage and fertility rates.
Developed by the Government Technology Agency (GovTech), the platform uses the national Singpass digital identity system to match eligible single public officers aged 21 to 35.
Users complete a questionnaire covering lifestyle habits and personal values before receiving a curated daily match generated by an established mathematical pairing algorithm.
Rather than settling restaurant bills directly, the site offers a "Date Quest" incentive that rewards couples with government-backed vouchers after they complete a shared activity and upload a selfie.
Couples are subsequently invited to submit feedback on their experience to help authorities assess local dating culture and improve future iterations of the service.
The pilot programme is currently restricted to roughly 160,000 public sector workers ahead of the initial application deadline on October 5.
Online reactions have ranged from praise for abandoning endless profile swiping to humorous viral comments about "state-assigned spouses".
