Muharraq’s neighbourhoods and elderly homes came alive with warmth and appreciation as the International Day of Older Persons was marked with a series of community celebrations.
Organised by the Jabr Alkhawater Initiative Group under the patronage of MP Mohammed Al Olaiwi, the events brought together senior citizens, families and community members to honour a generation whose contributions have helped shape Bahrain’s social fabric.
Mr Al Olaiwi expressed his delight at taking part in the celebrations, describing older people as ‘the memory, wisdom and living history of our communities’.
“Seeing the smiles on their faces filled my heart with joy,” he said. “Our elders deserve to feel valued, respected and surrounded by love, not only on this day but throughout the year.”
He stressed that caring for older people was a shared social responsibility and called for stronger community ties to ensure they remain active, connected and valued.
The celebrations included visits, gatherings and gestures of appreciation, offering Muharraq’s senior residents moments of companionship and recognition.
The International Day of Older Persons is observed worldwide on October 1.
