A call for renewed efforts to address the kingdom’s economic and social priorities has been made by Shura Council chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh.
He stressed that the coming period must deliver practical legislative achievements, reinforce national stability and respond to issues affecting citizens’ daily lives.
“The coming phase requires more work, dedication and legislative achievements, alongside greater co-operation and integration between the legislative and executive authorities,” he said.
Mr Al Saleh made the remarks as he opened the fifth session of the sixth legislative term yesterday, highlighting the importance of parliamentary work in supporting national development and safeguarding the kingdom’s interests.
He said national unity and social cohesion remained fundamental to Bahrain’s security and stability, particularly in light of the challenges facing the region.
“The unity and social cohesion of our society are among the strongest pillars of the nation’s security and stability,” he said.
Mr Al Saleh also praised the efforts of Bahrain’s defence and security agencies in protecting the kingdom and its people, stressing the importance of safeguarding maritime security and maintaining regional stability.
He reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to strengthening relations with its Gulf neighbours, particularly the UAE, as well as its wider international partnerships, including ties with the United States.
The chairman also highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting dialogue, strengthening co-operation and supporting Bahrain’s positions on regional and international issues.
He referred to the significance of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026, alongside the need to uphold international law, protect regional security and preserve freedom of navigation.
Mr Al Saleh also reflected on the significance of national occasions in reinforcing Bahrain’s identity and collective memory, including the designation of 2026 as the Year of Isa Al Kabeer and 2027 as the Year of Isa bin Salman.
He highlighted the importance of June 1, designated as the Day of Allegiance and Loyalty, in commemorating the legacy of the late Amir and the values of service, leadership and commitment to the nation.
The chairman stressed that the Shura Council would continue to work to strengthen Bahrain’s legislative framework and support initiatives that advance the kingdom’s development, while maintaining co-ordination with Parliament and the executive branch.
Following the opening session, Mr Al Saleh chaired a meeting of the Shura Council’s General Secretariat Office, during which committee memberships were finalised for the new session. He also congratulated MP Jalila Al Sayed on her election as Parliament’s first deputy speaker, describing her appointment as an important development in the kingdom’s parliamentary work.
Mr Al Saleh said the Shura Council would continue its work during the new session, focusing on legislation, national priorities and co-operation between the two legislative chambers in the interests of Bahrain and its citizens.
