A man in India has been sentenced to seven years in prison for attempting to murder his wife by tricking her into swallowing capsules packed with razor blade fragments.
The court also sentenced the 45-year-old man to a concurrent three years of rigorous imprisonment for cruelty.
The victim first experienced severe stomach pain in October 2023 before discovering a piece of razor blade in her faeces.
She suffered a similar incident a month later and went to the hospital for medical treatment.
Doctors discovered a blade fragment inside her stomach and successfully removed it through an endoscopic procedure.
Presiding over the case, the judge noted that the blade pieces had been bent to fit inside standard medicine capsules.
A local chemist confirmed that the husband, identified as Somnath Sadhu Sapkal, had purchased a packet containing 500 empty capsules from his shop.
Police officers later retrieved the capsule packet alongside two steel blade fragments from the accused's residence.
Sapkal allegedly administered the tampered capsules to his wife over a two-month period.
Testifying during the trial, a doctor confirmed that the blade pieces in the victim's stomach posed a direct threat to her life.
