Bahrain's Riffa return to action tonight in the 2026-27 Gulf Club Champions League.
The kingdom’s lone representatives in the 12-team Gulf Football Federation tournament host Qatar SC of Qatar in a Group B fixture, to be played at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town and kicking off at 8pm.
The game is the second for both teams in the preliminary round. The Bahrainis lost their opening assignment 0-3 against Al Nasr of the UAE earlier this month in Dubai, while Qatar and Al Zawraa of Iraq played to a 1-1 stalemate at Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha the same evening.
Group A in the championship features Neom SC from Saudi Arabia, Al Duhail SC from Qatar, Al Shabab SC from Oman, and Shaab Hadramaut SC from Yemen; while Group C is composed of Al Ettifaq SC of Saudi, Ajman SC of the UAE, Erbil SC from Iraq, and Kazma SC from Kuwait.
In preparation for today’s clash, representatives from both Riffa and Qatar took part in the official technical and coordination meeting.
Riffa’s delegation in the gathering was headed by team manager Ahmed Alkaabi.
The uniforms that both sides will be using in the contest were confirmed, with Riffa set to play in their traditional sky blue kit and Qatar set to use their striped yellow and black overalls.
Fixtures in this stage of the tournament are being held in home-and-away format. Following the preliminaries, the top two teams from each of the three groups will advance to the quarter-finals, together with the two best third-placed sides, with all ties to be contested over two legs.
