A Parliament committee has put the new Railway Regulation Law on hold, while the kingdom is working to meet a December 2030 deadline to complete the GCC railway network linking the kingdom to Saudi Arabia via the proposed King Hamad Causeway.
The public utilities and environment affairs committee has decided to defer consideration of Decree-Law No 42 of 2026 for further study, with chairman Hisham Al Awadhi saying members need more time to examine provisions that will regulate the sector and establish its legal framework .
