KAZAKHSTAN cyclists claimed the top two places in the men’s junior category road race in the Asian Cycling Championship at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.
Daniil Marukhin and Igor Chzhan claimed the gold and silver medals respectively in the 89.6kms race.
Daniil Marukhin clocked two hours and 10.31 minutes while Igor was second with the same time.
Amirhoss Jamshidian of Iran finished third in 2:10.45. Kazakhstan cyclists won the next two places as well with Yevgenly Fedorov fourth in 2:10.48 and Daniil Pronskiy fifth in 2:11.18 hours.
Ratchanon Yaiwarat of Thailand was sixth in 2:11.20 and
Bahrain’s Mohammed Al A’ali seventh in 2:11.20 while Mendoza Aidan James of Philippines rounded the top eight in 2:11.20.
Two other Bahrainis Ahmed Nasser and Faizal Hazeem finished 20th and 39th in 2:11.20 and 2:21.27 respectively.
In the elite women’s road race, Qianyu Yang of Hong Kong claimed the gold in 2:32.50, Ahreum Na of Korea the silver in 2:32.50 and Miho Yoshikawa of Japan the bronze in 2:32.50.
Makhabbat Umutzhanova of Kazakhstan was fourth in 2:32.53, Yumi Kajihara of Japan fifth in 2:33.28 and Hong Guo of China sixth in 2:33.32.
Bahrain’s only cyclist in this category Samah Khaled finished 26th in 2:37.52.
The men’s under-23 road race will be flagged off today at 8am and the junior women event at 1.30pm.
