Bahrain Society for Human Rights Watch secretary general Faisal Fulad and Ahwaz Centre for Human Rights executive director Dr Faisal Al Ahwazi handed over an urgent appeal against global terrorism led by the Iranian regime to the president of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
A number of Arab and international organisations that signed the urgent appeal requested the council to issue a statement condemning leaders of Iran for global terrorism and hold a special session on this at the 36th session of the council next September. Copies of the statement were also handed over to all special rapporteurs, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
Civil society organisations called on the UN Human Rights Council to identify and respond to terrorism perpetrated and financed by the Iranian regime, condemn its leaders for global terrorism and hold a special session at the 36th session of the council in September.
They stressed that the Iranian regime has violated international laws, agreements, treaties and ethical principles. The statement was attached with a record of Iran’s support for terrorism and extremism. “Iran, under its current regime, is the first sponsor and supporter of terrorism in the world,” it added.
The statement listed many of the terrorist operations that Iran stood behind.
