MANAMA: Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest airline group, announced it will resume services to Bahrain from August 17 after a six-year hiatus.
In a statement, the airline said it will run three flights a week between its base in Addis Ababa-Bole and Bahrain International Airport, via Dammam in Saudi Arabia.
The flights will be operated on the latest Boeing B737-800 new generation with Sky Interior – that features new pivoting overhead bins, new sidewalls, new passenger service units, and LED mood lighting.
Bahrain has been at the centre of major historic trade routes with a rapidly growing economy over the past few decades.
“With the flourishing trade relations between Ethiopia and the Gulf countries, availability of efficient air transport services will surely play great roles in ensuring easy movement of people and import/export items,” said Ethiopian Airlines Group chief executive Tewolde GebreMariam.
“Our presence in Bahrain dates back to the 1970s and we are glad that we are now back with scheduled thrice weekly flights. Currently, Ethiopian flies to major cities in the Middle east including Beirut, Dammam, Doha, Jeddah, Kuwait, Dubai, Medina, Muscat, Riyadh and Sharjah.”
