A RARE banknote fetched the highest price at an online auction of old Iraqi currencies in which bidders from the GCC, the US and the UK took part.
A 1942 currency featuring an image of the last king of Iraq, King Faisal II, went for BD2,200. The note also contains serial numbers that are the same when read from either side, which is known as radar.
The auction was organised by Arados Auction House via popular mobile messaging application WhatsApp from 6pm to 10pm on Saturday.
The currencies spanned from the time Iraq was known as a kingdom to its current status as a republic.
The sale attracted bids of between BD900 and BD1,000 for several of the 26 items on the block.
The Bahrain-based auction house is currently preparing for its next annual event which will be held in January 2018 and is considered to be the biggest event on its calendar.
