MANAMA: Bahrain yesterday denied any plans to purchase the Israeli-manufactured air defence system from Israel.
“Bahrain has no intention of buying the “Iron Dome” and David’s Sling weapon system for air and missile defence”, said Information, Parliament and Shura Council Affairs Minister Isa Al Hammadi.
The minister made the statement in response to a question asked by Al Wasat regarding a Fox News report, based on a statement attributed to the Foreign Minister.
“The report on the TV channel regarding the Iron Dome was not accurate”, he said, pointing out that the Foreign Ministry contacted Fox News to correct the false statement which was wrongly attributed to the Foreign Minister.
Mr Al Hammad said that GCC states are in talks to purchase an air defence system, denying any “talks with the Israelis”, contrary to the Fox News claim.
“GCC countries are studying the purchase of an air defence system from the US”, he said, denying any plans to buy such a system from Israel.
