DIPLOMATS have not been able to reach out to an Indian woman who was located in Bahrain after being reported missing for seven months.
The Indian Embassy last week confirmed the whereabouts of Dhana Lakshmi Kota, aged 24, who works as a housemaid for a Bahraini family in Riffa, after her family raised concerns that she had not contacted them for months.
The GDN reported at the time that Ms Kota’s previous employer, an elected official, had transferred her work visa to another Bahraini sponsor earlier this year, which is when her family contacted diplomats for information on her whereabouts.
However, Indian Embassy First Secretary Meera Sisodia told the GDN yesterday that they have still not been able to see Ms Kota or her employer.
“After the embassy made the announcement in the media about the missing woman, we were informed by the police that they have located her,” said Ms Sisodia.
“Later we received a call from the Hoora police station asking us to go for a meeting with her and her employer – apparently her first employer had transferred her to another employer.
“So when we went to the Hoora police station neither the employer nor the woman showed up and we could not meet them.
“Later we were informed by the police that the second employer will be returning the woman to her first employer who will be ensuring that she returns to India.
“We will be writing to authorities in this regard, especially since she has not reached out to her family until now.”
Ms Kota’s previous employer earlier said that the new employer had assured him that she has been in touch with her family in India.
However, her family maintained that she had not contacted them since April this year.
