Dubai: A Pakistani national who killed a female student in his native country was arrested in Dubai.
Mujahid Afridi shot Asma Rani dead in Kohat on January 27 before fleeing to the United Arab Emirates.
The police in Dubai identified the suspect and arrested him although he had shaved off his hair and beard in an attempt to change his look and evade arrest.
"Despite trying to fool authorities by changing his appearance by shaving off his beard and hair, the criminal was arrested," said Major Gen Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Criminal Investigation Police.
The Interpol had issued a red notice after the murder to track down the fugitive and bring him to justice.
The Dubai police said that the suspect, Afridi, is also wanted over his involvement in another murder case.
The suspected killer shot Asma Rani three times in her native town in Kohat, Pakistan, after she turned down his proposal to marry her.
The victim, who is a third-year medical student in Abbottabad, was in spending her vacation in her hometown when Mujahid shot her on January 27.
She managed to record a compelling video recording in which she named her killer before passing away, said Khaleej Times.
The Dubai authorities have taken all legal and judicial measures to hand over the suspected killer to the Interpol to be extradited to Pakistan.
