A batch of 74 Bahrain Bayan School students graduated at a ceremony under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for charity work and youth affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sport chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The school’s 24th graduation ceremony was held at the premises of the school, in the presence of board chairwoman Dr Shaikha Mai bint Suleiman Al Otaibi, board members, senior officials, leading personalities and graduates’ families.
Shaikh Nasser praised the school’s distinguished status and achievements, stressing that the ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate the quest for knowledge and the graduates who will play a key part in building the nation and the future of Bahrain.
Dr Al Otaibi lauded Shaikh Nasser’s patronage of the event, praising his unflinching support for the youth and the educational process in Bahrain.
She congratulated the graduates on their achievement which crowned a long journey of hard work and dedication. She added that the new generations will follow in the footsteps of their predecessors in upholding the name of Bahrain and the school at various gatherings.
She also praised the success of the graduates and their aspiration to continue on the path of distinction and obtain HRH the Crown Prince’s scholarship.
Eight outstanding graduates won five cash prizes, presented by former school board chairperson the late Ahmed Ali Kanoo, the late Mohammed Youssef Jalal, the late Mohammed Al Zamel, and the late Shaikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
The prizes named after the five dignitaries are conferred on students who played an active role in charity work, have leadership skills and excel in their studies.
Three other top-achieving students each won $5,000 as part of the Abdulhakim Business Competitiveness Prize.
They are presented by the Kuwait Finance House (KFH) chief executive and managing director Abdulhakim Al Khayyat.
Each student is required to invest his prize amount in Islamic financial market, allocate 2.3 per cent annually for Zakat, get 50pc of the profits and reinvest the remaining sum.
Each recipient of the cash prize is required to return to the school a few years later and address fresh students on his personal Islamic investments and encourage them to do so.
