A three-day festival celebrating close links between the cultures of Bahrain and Egypt opened yesterday.
Under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad, the Al Ahram Cultural Festival was inaugurated at the University of Bahrain.
Egypt’s Al Ahram group is organising the event in co-operation with Information Ministry under the theme “Egypt and Bahrain ... Two civilisations and one common destiny”.
Information Minister and Bahrain Institute of Political Development board of trustees’ chairman Ali Al Romaihi said the festival reflects the depth of long-standing ties between Bahrain and Egypt, and the progress they are witnessing under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad and President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi.

He also hailed Egypt’s commitment to championing just Arab and Islamic causes.
The minister expressed confidence that the media and cultural forum, bringing together prominent Arab competencies and experts, will come up with constructive ideas and proposals that support efforts to enhance joint Arab action.
Al Ahram establishment’s director-general, Al Ahram Festival’s chairman and the festival’s co-ordinator-general, also delivered statements.
A video showcasing Al Ahram Group’s history was screened and a number of media personalities were honoured.
The festival features an exhibition showcasing 5,000 books, a fine art expo exhibiting 30 artworks, a microfilm archives expo showcasing Al Ahram’s coverage of Bahrain, in addition to a poetry recital by Jamal Bakheet.
