His Majesty the King’s representative for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa congratulated the committee on its achievements in what he described as a “Golden Year’.
The announcement was made at the annual BOC board meeting in Seef, chaired by Shaikh Nasser.
During the meeting, Shaikh Nasser commended the efforts of BOC and its affiliates this year, when Bahrain took a record-breaking total of 391 medals in different sporting events, regionally and internationally.
The meeting started with BOC vice-president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa congratulating Shaikh Nasser on winning first place in the World Ironman Championship’s Executive Challenge Series held in Kona, Hawaii recently.
The board discussed a number of topics, such as creating a joint-stock company to manage BOC’s Bahrain National Sports Medicine Centre in an attempt to upgrade its services for the athletes as well as other members of Bahrain society.
The board also approved the decision made by the best sports federation award judging committee, which granted the award for the second consecutive year to the Bahrain Athletics Association for its remarkable achievements at various levels, and for the outstanding management of its president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The board selected five promising athletes with outstanding athletic skills to participate in a special preparation programme for the 2024 Olympics. They are Abdullah Janahi (sailing), Hajar Al Khaldi (athletics), Ali Ibrahim (cycling), Abdulla Abdul Karim (fencing) the Ebrahim Adnan (badminton).
