Bahrain: Bahrain is proud of its modern legislation and laws that ensure equality between men and women, the Premier said yesterday.
His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa affirmed that the laws open doors for all to reach decision-making posts depending on their efficiency and achievements.
“Bahrain’s development is the result of the efforts of all citizens – both men and women,” he said, voicing pride in women’s competencies who, he said, have proved their capability and skills in various fields and reached top leadership and executive positions.
“Bahraini women today hold high posts in the government, parliament and Shura Council, have a prominent presence in the Interior, Defence and Judicial sectors and enjoy leading positions in the trade and economic fields,” he said.
The Premier made the statements as he received a delegation comprising heads of plenary sessions and speakers of the conference “Women in Public Life: From Policies to Impact”. The team was led by Arab Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Jarwan, director-general of the UAE General Women’s Union Noura Khalifa Al Suwaidi and Supreme Council for Women secretary-general Hala Al Ansari.
“In Bahrain, women are essential partners and play a major role in society, and we will continue providing them with all kinds of support to enable them to reach the highest levels in various fields,” he stressed.
The Premier said the government paid great attention to integrating women’s needs in different development programmes, which, he asserted, has contributed to developing services provided for women.
The government has also intensified programmes aimed at empowering women, helping them to get equal opportunities in work and production sites and increase their role and contributions to the development march, he added.
The Premier expressed delight at the participation of an elite of women in the key international conference hosted by the kingdom.
“This outstanding elite of women convey to the world the true image of the highly-aware and cultured human beings who interact with contemporary issues with openness,” the Premier said.
