BAHRAIN Olympic Committee (BOC) board member and chairwoman of women’s sport committee Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa has been appointed new member of the International Olympic Committee’s Women in Sport Commission.
Shaikha Hayat had been a member of the IOC Athletes Entourage Commission for two consecutive terms.
The role of Women in Sport Commission is to advise the IOC Session, the IOC Executive Board and the IOC President on the development and implementation of the IOC women and sport policy and to promote equal opportunities for girls and women to participate in, and benefit from sport and physical activity.
Shaikha Hayat joins 32 other members who make up the new panel for the next term with Lydia Nsekera of Burundi heading the commission as chairwoman while Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein of Jordan is the vice-chairman.
BOC secretary general Mohammed Al Nusuf congratulated Shaikha Hayat on her appointment.
