Dubai: Human intervention by examiners for results will not be needed with the new Dubai driving learners’ yard tests which will be completely automated.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that the Smart Yard project will allow 100 per cent automation of driver’s tests.
Sophisticated technologies, as well as cameras and sensors, are fitted to the testing vehicles to read the skills of examinees in the five-manoeuvre test and match them automatically to the approved testing standards.
The project aims to reduce the error margin in taking the decision of Pass or Fail without human intervention in respect of the examinee, said Khaled Al Saleh, director of Drivers Training and Qualification Department in RTA’s Licensing Agency.
about 108,603 smart testing processes have been completed since the launch of the project in March 2018 and the system has been applied to 15 testing yards in Dubai.
The smart testing yard is fitted with a total of five surveillance cameras; one camera on board to verify the identity of the driver taking the test and four outside the testing vehicle to guide the examinee to the five manoeuvres.
Al Saleh mentioned that the Smart Yard initiative has helped RTA to overcome the challenge of some examinees claiming that results of their tests were impacted by different perceptions of examiners about mistakes.
The smart testing yard enables the monitoring of multiple examinees at one time which helps in increasing the intake of examinees and decreases the number of people on the waiting lists.
