Manama: Bahrain will increase petrol prices from midnight tonight. The price of premium Mumtaz fuel will rise from 100 fils to 160 fils per litre, while the cheaper Jayyid fuel will increase from 80 fils to 125 fils per litre.
Energy Minister Dr Abdulhussain Mirza announced the Cabinet decision earlier today. It is part of government efforts to streamline the economy in light of fiscal challenges brought on by a slump in global oil prices, which have plummeted by more than 60 per cent since mid-2014.
This is the first time in 33 years that Bahrain has hiked petrol prices and the move has led to queues at petrol stations as motorists seek to fill up before prices go up at the pumps.
