One of the biggest sporting events in the region Ironman Bahrain began this morning.
Athletes from 89 countries are taking part in Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship, which features a 90km cycling race, a 21.1km running challenge and a 1.9km swimming race.
Among the participants is long distance legend and multiple Olympics champion Mo Farah, who are a part of the Legends Team with champion cyclist Mark Cavendish and renowned open water swimmer Chole McCardel.
ROUTE
The cycling segment of the championship will proceed along the right lane of the King Faisal Highway to the traffic signal at the Bahrain Financial Harbour.
The contestants will switch to the left lane of the King Faisal Highway to the Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Highway to Zallaq Flyover.
The competitors will then take the right lane until the Shaikh Rashid Equestrian Club passing the junction of Zallaq Highway to the Bahrain Bay Road.
