BAHRAIN Road Runner’s (BRR) member Abdellatif Ait Hsine has broken a 33-year-old record which was previously held by England’s international runner Ron Hill.
Hsine managed to finish the 42.2km Bahrain Full Marathon in a time of 2:21:03, while Hill had managed 2:25:25 on 11 February 1983.
The competitors kicked off the race from Sofitel Hotel at 6 am in the morning.
The track saw athletes run from the hotel up until Jazayer beach and back twice to complete the required distance.
The 1983 race, under the patronage of Shaikh Isa bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, the sports minister at the time, started and finished in Awali.
As part of the BRR’s role in promoting the sport and motivating athletes to push themselves to break more records, Hsine will be honored tomorrow at the BRR Annual Race which takes place at Al Areen Wild Park.
