MORE than 3,000 people are expected to attend celebrations marking the harvest festival of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu this weekend.
Organised by the Bharathi Association in collaboration with the Indian Club, the festivities will be held on Friday at the club’s premises in Manama.
Celebrations begin at 10am with Kolam decorations (a traditional form of drawing with chalk or rice powder), Pongal rituals, Tamil cultural dances, Uri Adithal (traditional games), tug of war, sports and games for all ages.
Association members will also participate in cultural events choreographed by dance teacher Hansul Gani. Lunch feast for members and guests will be served with a variety of Tamil cuisine vegetarian dishes on a banana leaf.
A musical concert will be held from 6.30pm where director and playback singer Raja King, singer Fareedha and folk song celebrity Guru Ayya Durai will entertain the audience.
Entry to the event is free and all are welcome.
