A BAHRAINI tech startup has offered its cloud-based video customer service platform for free for two months to all public institutions and hospitals in support of national efforts to combat the coronavirus (Covid-19).
The company, ‘Basma’ (Arabic for smile) was created by four Bahrainis to simplify and speed up the implementation of remote working and social distancing policies and facilitate digital transformation.
According to co-founder Ali Saeed, Basma consists of two components – a video call centre that acts as a virtual branch and a smart virtual assistant (chatbot) that is compatible with WhatsApp and can be integrated into other chat platforms.
“The platform enables organisations to launch a fully virtual branch in less than five minutes and start serving customers via video calls rather than requiring the customers to physically visit a branch to interact with a staff member,” he told the GDN.
“This is done through a simple and accessible web-based interface without the need to download or install an application.”
The Health Ministry was among the first to adopt the platform, he said, using it for tele-consultations in the primary care health centres.
“The service is very easy – users will receive an SMS with a link which they open and talk to a doctor.
Plans are also underway to roll out the service globally.
