MANAMA: Bank ABC has emerged as the ‘Bank of the Year in Bahrain’, as announced by The Banker magazine, in an award ceremony held online due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 40-year-old Bahrain-based banking group was recognised for its “robust growth strategy, resilient performance, and pioneering strides in digital transformation”.
The Banker is a publication of the Financial Times Group and the prestigious award, widely regarded as the ‘Oscars’ of the banking industry, aims to reward and promote industry-wide excellence in the global banking community.
Banks from approximately 150 countries are evaluated on a host of parameters, including financial performance, technology, innovation, and Covid-19 pandemic response.
The rigorous judging process by FT’s panel of editors takes over five months, and therefore this accolade is among the most coveted and widely regarded awards in the banking industry.
Bank ABC has the distinction of receiving this honour twice, having won the award for the year 2017 as well.
Bank ABC’s Group chairman Saddek El Kaber said: “We are very honoured to receive this recognition for the second time and in the midst of a unique storm caused by the pandemic. Bank ABC’s vision, its consistent commitment to all its stakeholders and pioneering digital transformation enabled it to weather an extremely hostile year. This has been recognised not just by our industry peers and rating agencies, but now by The Banker Awards. On behalf of the group, I would like to thank the Financial Times and The Banker for their trust in our group, and my heartiest congratulations go out to the management and staff of Bank ABC for this achievement.”
The 2020 awards ceremony was attended by CEOs and C-suite executives from around the globe.
