MY experience with one of the banks providing credit cards has prompted me to write a few lines about it, to bring it to the notice of the public.
We always receive SMS and emails from the banks offering attractive services followed by phone calls from their call centre.
At the same time, when they change their policy or terms and conditions, they do not inform the credit card holders about the changes. If we argue with them, they refer us to some advertisement flyers where they would have mentioned their change of policy in very small letters. Nobody notices such messages on the flyers which we receive by email because the top portion is always covered with promotional material.
If the banks want to change their terms and conditions, they should inform their customers separately rather than putting a small message in their advertising flyers.
I had a very bad experience with one of the leading credit card banks in Bahrain. They were not ready to waive off my annual fee, claiming that they had informed me four months back through email in one of their flyers. The same bank only offers free two years’ annual fee waiver to the customers (I received a separate email in my inbox). I am quite confused on the logic behind these misleading advertisements. They want to charge from the old customers and at the same time they make it free for the new customers.
Banks need to review their terms and conditions policy, and they must inform their customers about any changes and give them time limit to continue or cancel their cards. Directly debiting the account is not a good practice.
I hope the authority concerned will look into it.
