Bahrain is to move to the ‘orange’ alert level during the Ashoora holiday, which falls on Wednesday and Thursday.
The National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (Covid-19) announced the decision last night.
It said the decision was made in line with the previous announcement that some dates may be designated at higher alert levels if deemed necessary to protect public health.
The ‘yellow’ alert level will be re-adopted on Friday, and will remain the lowest alert level able to be reached until at least 80 per cent of individuals aged 40 who are eligible for a booster shot have received the dose, the task force said.
It stressed the importance of adhering to the measures and procedures within the ‘orange’ level, which were previously announced in accordance with the Covid-19 Alert level Traffic Light System.
The system consists of four levels based on the average percentage of cases to tests, in addition to the level of occupancy in intensive care units.
The Health Ministry said 103 new Covid-19 cases were registered alongside 123 recoveries and no fatalities. Of the new cases, 36 were expat workers, 56 contacts of local cases and 11 travel-related. An additional 123 people recovered, taking the total recoveries to 268,422. Of the 1,113 active cases, five are receiving treatment and six are in critical condition.
Bahrain has so far registered a total of 270,919 cases and conducted 5,677,009 tests.
