Riyadh: A woman addicted to eating her hair is undergoing treatment at Samtah General Hospital in the province of Jazan.
A medical team conducted a three-hour surgery on the patient, who complained of acute stomach-ache and vomiting.
The doctors removed two hair balls weighing 1.3 kilogrammes which were formed in her bowel, reported local Arabic daily Sabq.
The 24-year-old woman has been diagnosed with a rare Trichophagia.
Patients suffering from this disease chew long hair while still attached to the head and then swallow it. The hair eventually form in the gastrointestinal tract causing symptoms such as indigestion and stomach pain.
A purgative can be given to induce the elimination of the resulting trichobezoar.
