SOME of Bahrain’s heroes of the national health service enjoyed a breakfast gathering to mark the annual Bahraini Doctor’s Day.
The second edition of the special day – celebrated on the first Wednesday of November – is being marked under the theme ‘Our happiness in giving and our honour in serving the nation’, as announced by the Bahrain Medical (BMS) Society.
The society dedicated this year’s commemoration once again to frontline doctors who have served diligently during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
“Bahraini Doctor’s Day is a special occasion to me personally as it originated from BMS,” BMS chairwoman Dr Ghada Al Qassim said.
“It reflects the celebration of all doctors in Bahrain in general and Bahraini doctors specifically, and recognises their efforts in preserving the health of everyone.
“This year it has continued to gain more importance due to the selfless efforts every single doctor has put in during the fight against Covid-19.
“As front-liners who exposed themselves to danger and the risk of infection to protect the citizens and residents of Bahrain, this is the least that BMS and I can give back to them.
“I salute and thank every one of them.”
As part of the celebrations, 60 doctors at Ibn Al Nafees Hospital earlier this week marked the day with a gathering at the Orangery, in the Palace Boutique Hotel, Adliya.
Hospital chairman Dr Hassan Al Arrayedh shared his joy while addressing colleagues and expressing pride in being a Bahraini doctor too.
“We are also proud of our national government, which dedicated a day to Bahraini doctors in appreciation of their efforts, taking into account the difficult circumstances that we have all gone through,” he said.
“We’re all proud of Team Bahrain which, with its skill and dedication, has been able to help move Bahrain towards safety and return us to a more normal way of life. It motivates us to continue our work.”
He added that his staff had ‘many dreams’ about the future of the hospital, which include expanding the quality of its services in each speciality and developing technologies and devices to help and serve patients better.
Hospital chief executive Peter Kennedy also expressed his happiness in celebrating Bahraini Doctor’s Day and he wished the medics continued career progress and success.
Bahraini Doctor’s Day was celebrated for the first time last year and was one of the last major announcements made by the late Premier HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.
This was in appreciation of the dedication of health professionals in serving their country and society through their sacrifices and noble humanitarian efforts.
The BMS was also highlighted for its pioneering role in fulfilling the aspirations of medics who had accorded life ‘a profound value through their high humanitarian attitudes’.
As reported earlier in the GDN, the BMS unveiled an official logo for the much-awaited day this year.
