A MAN and his four-year-old son who were attacked by his former wife’s relatives have been granted protection by the Public Prosecution.
Three Bahrainis – the woman’s two brothers and uncle – were arrested after they attacked her ex-husband, a fellow national, and her son in February outside their home.
Video footage of the alleged incident went viral on social media.
Prosecutors said that they were investigating the case and ordered the case not be sent to court after the victim dropped the charges.
However, they ordered the accused not to contact the man and his son, who he has custody of.
A child care centre will compile a report about the child’s social and psychological well-being following the attack.
“Video footage of the incident went viral on social media,” read a prosecution statement yesterday.
“The matter has been settled out of court after the father of the child reconciled with the relatives of his ex-wife.
“The father was granted custody of his four-year-old son and the suspects had attacked him and his son outside his home.
“They assaulted him following a dispute over the custody battle, which the father had won in court.
“They were questioned at the Public Prosecution and previously were shown video footage evidence of the incident taken by surveillance cameras.
“However, the victims did not suffer any injuries from the assault. The defendants will not stand trial but they are under a restraining order, to ensure they do not go anywhere near the victims.
“A child’s safety and protection is the main concern for prosecutors and therefore the child’s mental condition will be monitored.”
A new law allows defendants and victims to reach a settlement to help reduce the number of cases in courts.
