THE Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry has urged people not to tamper with the sewage network, especially during rainfall.
It said that removing the covers of manholes and inspection chambers may flood roads and worsen rainwater pooling.
In a statement yesterday, it urged people to report locations of street flooding and rainwater pooling on the hotline of the sewage affairs department.
Meanwhile, the ministry is stepping up efforts to complete the cleaning and maintenance of the drainage network across Bahrain.
About 49,000 manholes have so far been cleaned countrywide over the past nine months to avert potential rainwater ordeals.
The ministry has also completed the maintenance of 76 rainwater pumping stations and cleaned over 2,682 metres of open drains.
The ministry implements a maintenance programme round the year to clean and empty collection and septic tanks to dispose of stagnant water coming from washing homes and cars.
The rainwater drainage network has also been cleaned across Bahrain, using high pressure tanks, in addition to cleaning.
The ministry stressed the need to undertake periodic cleaning of the drainage network which is affected due to accumulated dust, farming waste, dumped paper and plastic bags.
The clean-up campaign covers street water drainage holes, inspection chambers and outfalls leading to the sea, open water drains, channels and storage tanks.
“It is national duty to maintain and preserve sewage drainage facilities as they represent important investments serving all people,” said the ministry.
It pointed out that all cleaning maintenance work of the drainage network is conducted on main streets in the evening to avoid disrupting traffic and cause people any convenience.
