AGGRO erupted in A’ali when a postman and painter started pummelling each other during a road rage altercation, a court heard.
Punches were thrown and kicks went flying during the ruckus, the High Criminal Court was told yesterday.
The two Bahrainis – a 40-year-old postman and a 28-year-old painter – appeared in the dock for assaulting each other with both of them claiming they were acting in self-defence and denying charges of assault.
The 28-year-old was also accused by the Public Prosecution of causing a five per cent permanent disability to the 40-year-old as a result of the violence which occurred on July 29 this year.
“These accusations are true but I was acting in self-defence as I was travelling with my pregnant wife and the man was recklessly driving and almost collided with my car,” the younger accused told the Public Prosecution.
Screaming
“I blared the horn and then he intercepted my car and slammed on the brakes which could have caused a serious accident.
“The man then got out of his car screaming and punched me in the face, so I pushed him.”
In his statement to the Public Prosecution, the 28-year-old denied kicking the 40-year-old and breaking his ankle.
Meanwhile, the 40-year-old told the Public Prosecution that he was acting in self-defence because the younger man allegedly stepped out of his vehicle looking for a fight.
“I don’t even recall what the 28-year-old was saying as he was screaming in a full rage and he started pushing me,” he said in his statement to the Public Prosecution.
“When I fell to the ground he started kicking me and stomped on my ankle breaking it.”
As a result of his injuries he was admitted to Salmaniya Medical Complex and needed a month of hospital treatment after the incident, the court heard. He added that his two-year-old son was asleep in the back seat of the car at the time of the incident.
The trial was yesterday adjourned until November 28 for review.
