Six more shops and two restaurants have been shut down for exploiting the increase in Value-Added Tax (VAT) that came into effect from Saturday.
The Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry said its inspectors had closed down the six shops in Tubli, Salmaniya, Saar, Arad, Qalali and Riffa, and two restaurants in Hidd and Hamad Town.
The action was taken upon receiving complaints from several consumers about the unjustified hike in food prices.
The ministry added that legal action has been taken against the practice of price gouging.
It also urged people to report violations on 80008001.
