A DETAILED investigation to identify and compensate every household in the Northern Governorate affected by the recent heavy rains has been launched.
The GDN reported earlier this week about water-logging in Hamad Town (Block 1214) due to the faulty design of a pipe that resulted in many homes being flooded, with occupants resolving the issue on their own.
Members of the Northern Municipal Council, during their weekly virtual meeting, thanked authorities for their help during the deluge, but said much needed to be done.
“Not everyone in the area has been properly compensated, and we should work on that,” said council’s technical committee chairman Abdulla Al Qubaisi.
The councillor, who represents Northern Governorate Constituency Nine (Hamad Town – western part from roundabout four to roundabout 13), expressed concerns over families with damaged cars, broken homes and sewage water flooding their area and, in some cases, their homes.
“The affected families need compensation not in two years; they need it now,” he added.
Separately, councillor Mohammed Al Dossary said that it was vital to take into account public services and religious needs such as prayer rooms while planning new homes in the area.
“The services planning should be done hand-in-hand with the government,” said Mr Al Dossary, who represents the governorate’s constituency three (Budaiya, Jasra, and Hamala Coast).
“Right now, we see people having to drive far from their residence just to refill petrol or buy traditional bread.”
The council agreed to plan a meeting with the concerned authorities to resolve the issues.
