Deputy King His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa has highlighted Saudi Arabia’s pivotal role in overcoming global energy supply challenges.
He was meeting Saudi Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, who is in Bahrain to take part in the Middle East Petroleum and Gas Conference which opened at the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay yesterday.
The Deputy King emphasised Bahrain’s historic relations with Saudi Arabia and noted efforts of Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud in strengthening them.
He highlighted the bilateral partnership across various industries, especially the oil and gas sector.
The Deputy King stressed the importance of continuing to support innovation in the energy sector through collaborative technological development.
Prince Abdulaziz expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to meet HRH Prince Salman, highlighting Saudi commitment to supporting Bahrain-Saudi collaboration.
The Deputy King hosted a lunch banquet in honour of Prince Abdulaziz and his delegation.
He also separately met Iraqi Oil Minister Ihsan Abdul-Jabber Ismaael and stressed the importance of the energy sector in supporting economic diversification and development.
Earlier, Oil Minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa opened the conference and said that Bahrain remains on track to bring its 80-billion-barrel offshore shale oil reserves online with work on the technical side of things currently underway.
“We are still working on the technical side of things, understanding the resource play. Ultimately, it comes down to the cost of the production. Once you have that, you can start getting into this part,” Shaikh Mohammed said.
