A former housemaid turned Gudaibiya sex parlour madam has been jailed for 10 years for torturing a woman who was enticed into the country on the pretense of securing the position of a domestic worker.
The 42-year-old Indian expatriate was found guilty of human trafficking, holding her victim captive and assault by the High Criminal Court yesterday.
The woman and her boyfriend, who is on the run from the authorities, forced a fellow national, aged 33, into the vice trade in March with the offer of a maid’s job, according to court documents.
Only the woman stood trial in connection with the case.
“The defendant was found guilty of the charges due to sufficient evidence against her,” read the court ruling. “She was arrested after the victim escaped and described how she was forced into the vice trade by the defendant.
Denial
“The female pimp denied the charges in an attempt to evade punishment. She was also fined BD5,000 and will be deported after completing her sentence.”
The victim recounted how she was held captive in an apartment in Gudaibiya and forced into prostitution.
“I came to Bahrain as the defendant’s boyfriend told me that I could find a job as a housemaid,” she said in her statement to prosecutors. “The woman (the defendant) met me at Bahrain International Airport and took me to an apartment in Gudaibiya, where she locked me up.
“She then forced me to have sex with men for money. When I rejected, she tortured me until I succumbed to her wishes.”
She described how she managed to flee the apartment after the defendant left a door unlocked.
“She (the defendant) would collect money every time from clients,” she said. “On one such occasion, she was busy talking to someone on her phone and left the apartment’s door open. I used the opportunity to flee. A passer-by took me to the nearest police station.
“I left my family back home and did not expect such a nightmarish life here.”
