Bahrain continued their dominance with a 10-medal haul on the second day of the GCC Games in Kuwait yesterday.
Bahrain won five gold, four silver and one bronze yesterday to lead the standings with 23 medals.
Bahrain’s athletes won the 3,000 metre steeplechase gold medals in both men’s and women’s sections yesterday. John Kibet won the men’s race while Winfred Yavi emerged winner in the women’s event. Yavi was followed by compatriot Ruth Jebet, who won the silver medal
Fatima Mubarak, who won gold in women’s long jump on Monday, claimed another gold yesterday when she emerged as the winner in triple jump.
Aminat Yusuf, who was the women’s 100m hurdles gold medallist on Monday, clinched gold in the 400m hurdles yesterday.
Tigest Getent also won a gold for Bahrain after claiming victory in the women’s 800m race.
Monday’s gold medallist in women’s shot put, Noora Salem, was again on the podium yesterday, winning the silver medal in discus throw.
In 4x100m relay, Bahrain women won silver while the men’s team clinched bronze.
Meanwhile, Bahrain’s basketball team suffered their second consecutive defeat in the Games, going down 64-57 to hosts Kuwait yesterday. They had lost the opener to the UAE 71-66.
