A drug dealer jailed for trafficking marijuana has had his sentence upheld on appeal.
The Bahraini national was originally convicted by the High Criminal Court, which sentenced him to 10 years in prison and imposed a fine of BD5,000.
He challenged the ruling at the Supreme Criminal Appeals Court, which rejected his plea.
According to the Public Prosecution, the defendant was charged earlier this year with possessing, storing and selling narcotics, along with other unidentified individuals, with intent to distribute across the kingdom. He also faced additional charges of possessing hashish, methamphetamine (shabu), alprazolam, clonazepam, LSD, heroin, cannabis and methadone.
Court documents state that the case was triggered by a tip-off from an anonymous source to an officer at the Anti-Narcotics Directorate, alleging that the defendant was promoting and selling drugs for money.
Subsequent covert investigations revealed that he distributed narcotics through dead-drop locations in East Riffa. He was described as highly cautious, limiting sales to trusted individuals to avoid detection.
Based on the gathered evidence, authorities secured warrants to arrest the defendant and search his residence.
Officers proceeded to the address, where they spotted the defendant nearby and arrested him.
A search of his belongings and subsequent questioning led to his admission that he used drugs and kept narcotic substances and paraphernalia at his home.
A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of multiple items, including packets containing traces of heroin, around 7.8gm of shabu, and quantities of marijuana. Officers also recovered a precision scale bearing traces of hashish, tablets containing alprazolam, clonazepam and methadone, as well as an electronic smoking device and a glass container with synthetic cannabinoids. A strip containing approximately 1.08gm of LSD was also found.
The items were discovered in bags stored inside a cupboard.
During interrogation, the defendant admitted to using shabu and marijuana.
He told investigators that two unidentified individuals had recruited him in September 2025 to distribute narcotics in Bahrain, supplying him with drugs for personal use and cash payments in return.
Every month, he would receive four marijuana shipments through dead-drop locations in East Riffa.
He also received three other shipments – the first comprised 1kg of marijuana in East Riffa, followed by 150gm and 100gm of marijuana, both delivered in Hamad Town.
The defendant would store the drugs at his residence and in his vehicle, photograph them, and later deposit them at designated locations.
In return, he received narcotics and BD40 in cash, in addition to payments via the BenefitPay application.
His urine sample later tested positive for hashish and shabu.
The High Criminal Court sentenced him to 10 years in prison. He appealed the ruling, which was upheld by judges recently.
