His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, stepped in to ensure families worst affected by the summer storm and flooding receive compensation for any damage caused.
He ordered the Works Ministry and the Northern Governorate to step in and offer help to those hit by the torrential rain in and around Al Lawzi, an area often troubled by downpours during the normal rainy season.
HRH Prince Salman further directed to follow up on the steps taken to develop sustainable infrastructure solutions in the area.
From scattered drizzles to heavy showers, the north-western parts of Bahrain saw varying amounts of rain all day yesterday, as predicted by weather experts.
Flash flooding struck several areas including Janabiya, Bani Jamra, Hamad Town and Hamala, while Manama, Riffa, Sitra, Muharraq and surrounding areas escaped the deluge.
Authorities deployed tankers to all four governorates to drain flooded streets as police urged motorists to drive safely in the slippery conditions.
Works Minister Ibrahim Al Hawaj and Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak conducted joint field visits to Al Lawzi too.
“The two ministers are closely following the work of the emergency teams set out to drain rainwater,” said a Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry statement.
“Civil Defence emergency teams dealt with the standing water as fast as they could.”
Today the weather will be humid and partly cloudy at times.
