Bahrain celebrates the annual Arab Health Day today with a focus on a healthy lifestyle and a society free of diseases.
The kingdom attaches great importance to the promotion of healthy lifestyles that ensure a healthy way of life for all and constitute a cornerstone in the prevention of all diseases, said the Health Ministry in a statement yesterday.
“Most of these diseases are chronic non-communicable diseases which are being tackled through the National Committee to Combat Chronic Noncommunicable Diseases,” it added.
“The committee includes in its membership a number of governmental and private institutions, which emphasise the importance of promoting healthy lifestyles as these are defined by the behaviours of individuals on a daily basis which depend on their daily habits.
“Healthy habits help them feel energised and healthy, and reduce the chance of getting sick and stressed.”
The ministry said there were clear and specific standards concerning healthy lifestyles such as proper nutrition and physical activity, abstinence from smoking, healthy sleep, and the correct handling of life stressors.
“The Health Ministry highlights the importance of health awareness on the occasion of the Arab Health Day because promoting it in the community helps to adopt healthy patterns that raise the quality of life of the individual and society, thus enhancing full awareness to deal with various variables, by making health a priority in daily choices and practices.”
The ministry said it was keen to organise many educational and awareness events and activities in conjunction with the celebration of the Arab Health Day, through the establishment of lectures and awareness events that in turn aim to raise public awareness of healthy lifestyles and promote healthy behaviours among the community.
Arab countries are also marking Arab Doctors’ Day today.
Arab doctors are also being celebrated for their daily servitude and profession which is considered one of the most noble occupations that works tirelessly and without hesitation in the face of disease to care for others.
“They plant smiles on all faces as they wander like angels in their white robes relieving the sick of their pains, sorrows and diseases and sacrificing themselves for the sake of people and their happiness,” said the Health Ministry in another statement yesterday.
One of the ways doctors are celebrated is through the Arab Doctor Award.
Earlier last month, the GDN reported that Health Minister Dr Jalila Al Sayed issued a decision to form a committee, headed by Dr Nawaf Al Hamer, to receive and evaluate nominations for the Arab Doctor Award 2023.
The award aims to shed light on doctors’ leading role within the joint Arab action system to address the challenges related to health and development in Arab countries, and to encourage doctors to improve their performance, provide best medical services and take part in volunteer and charitable initiatives at the Arab level.
Dr Al Hamer stressed the importance of the participation of Bahraini doctors and medical cadres in this annual award.
Applications may be submitted until September 15 at 3pm.
