Here are some of the possible measures that could be taken to reduce traffic on the roads during the peak times in Bahrain as the new academic year began in full swing. School timings should be kept same! Instead, ask companies to adjust their shifts accordingly. Restrict heavy vehicles during school opening and closing times and remove vehicles from road sides were parking is not allowed.

You have to change school timings and office timings and place traffic wardens at the main signals during the start and end of school.

One of the main ways to avoid congestion is to separate the school ending times by half or an hour so that each school departs at a different time, resulting in less traffic on the roads all at once.

Having all pupils ride school buses is the best way to reduce traffic.
Mohamed Rashid
Change the school timing from 9am to 3pm. This way we can reduce the congestion.

We need public transportation: metro and buses.

1. Implementing staggered work and school timings/schedules wherever possible.
2. Strengthening of the school bus network, public transport to every nook and corner of the country which is below par; carpooling, etc. Public transport needs urgent transformation and serious out-of-the-box solutions to make it more efficient; shift travellers to it and increase frequency in busier areas. The public transport system is pathetic, frustrating and must be overhauled.
3. Imbibe remote working which reduces load on transport infrastructure making roads less congested and thereby saving time for all road users.
4. Discouraging car ownership by increasing VAT, licence and annual fees which can force the population to use public transport.
5. Effective traffic policing on main arterial roads and the use of a chopper during peak times in identifying bottlenecks during any accidents which cause massive tail backs.
6. Restricting the use of main roads by heavy trucks/trailers during the official peak times.
7. Learning the art of managing traffic from successful cities such as Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore. Can try to implement some of their best practices and strategies.
8. Strict policing near schools for following general traffic laws and adhering to discipline by all (No wasta).
9. Having long-term planning/policies by the government in tackling the menace of traffic congestion.
Building road infrastructure is nice but simultaneously the public transport system must be strengthened.
10. The traffic directorate must ensure immediate arrival of its officials at any accident site to avoid traffic jams caused by the accident which lead to blocking of the road.
