BAHRAIN’S pioneering steps in enhancing the medical sector were highlighted as hundreds of medical professionals took part in the first two-day Bahrain International Medical Conference for Aids (BIMCAIDS) which opened yesterday (Sept 22).
The forum is being held under the patronage of Supreme Council of Health chairman Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa who reaffirmed continued keenness to achieving His Majesty King Hamad’s vision to further develop Bahrain’s medical sector.
He also affirmed that Bahrain was taking leading steps in providing the best medical services to all citizens and residents.
“This conference is critical to confirm the high capabilities of the kingdom to host international medical events and it has many goals aimed at developing the medical sector,” he said during his opening speech.
“It brings together experts, consultants and academics from different countries to reflect on their experiences in the medical sector – specifically when dealing with HIV.
“Bahrain has taken pioneering steps and is still progressing in the development and prosperity of the health sector after setting the most wonderful example through its advanced steps in dealing with various medical issues.”
The conference has been organised by the Health Ministry in collaboration with Education Plus.
“This conference embodies the interest and support the medical sector in Bahrain enjoys with the aim to enhance its progress,” said Health Minister Dr Jalila Al Sayyed, in her opening speech.
“It also consolidates Bahrain’s position as a distinguished regional centre to host important scientific meetings, specialised medical forums and health conferences that contribute to strengthening and exchanging scientific and clinical experiences while also keeping abreast of developments, studies and international medical research.
“Bahrain pays great attention to national preventive programmes in general and the HIV programme in particular and is always keen to provide sustainable funding for comprehensive health coverage to ensure commitment to the necessary social protection of people living with HIV.
“There is no doubt that the legislation and measures taken by Bahrain have contributed significantly and influentially in setting policies to reduce the disease and prevent its complications through implementing effective plans and strategies that ensure integration, co-ordination and community partnership between national programmes and patients.”
Following the opening ceremony Lt Gen Dr Shaikh Mohammed and Dr Al Sayyed toured an exhibition being held on the sidelines of the conference.
Meanwhile, a number of experts, consultants and academics presented scientific papers on HIV.
The conference continues today at the Gulf Hotel Convention and Spa.
