Bahrain collapsed to a disappointing 10-wicket defeat to Singapore yesterday in the second semi-final of the 2024 ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Asia Division 2 Qualifier at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Muscat, Oman.
Batting first after captain Aryan Ashwin won the toss, Bahrain were bowled for 62 in 36.3 overs with only opener Rishabh Ramesh, who top-scored with 19, being able to make it into double-figures.
Needing only 63 to win off 50 overs, Singapore knocked off the required runs in just 12.3 overs without losing a wicket.
Bahrain will now face Oman today in the third-place play-off while Singapore will meet Hong Kong in the final, which will also be played today.
By qualifying for the final, Singapore and Hong Kong will now head to Kuwait next year to play in the Asia Qualifier. According to tournament rules, the two finalists of the Division 2 Qualifier automatically become eligible for the next qualifying round for the U19 World Cup.
Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal and the UAE have already qualified for the next stage.
The ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup will be held in 2024, with the host country yet to be decided.
