A GRANDFATHER running for office in the Capital Governorate hopes to champion women’s rights and build a better Bahrain for his granddaughters, if elected.
Ebrahim Alzeera, 67, yesterday submitted his candidacy papers to represent constituency two (old Manama (Makharqa and Ras Ruman), Naim, Ghufool, Burhama, Soaifya, Salhiya, parts of Salmaniya and Bab Al Bahrain area) at Khawla Secondary School for Girls, the election supervisory centre for Capital Governorate.
“I have two granddaughters, and I am hoping to champion women’s rights for them and for the future of our nation,” Mr Alzeera, a retired banker who worked at the National Bank of Bahrain for 34 years, told the GDN.
“Right now, as the law stands, there are very few protections for wives in the domestic sphere and women in the professional environment. But we can fix that and should do so, to build a better Bahrain, both for women and men.”
Mr Alzeera is running for office for the first time and also hopes to focus on employment, housing and healthcare.
