Six candidates have won seats in Parliament following the first round of voting in National Elections 2022 held on Saturday.
These include four current MPs.
This means that 34 Parliament seats are still up for grabs, and winners of these will be decided in a second round of voting this Saturday.
A candidate must secure at least 50 per cent of the vote to be declared the outright winner.
When that doesn’t happen the top two candidates go head to head in a second round run-off.
The high committee for the integrity of parliamentary elections announced the results early yesterday.
Those who were elected to Parliament in the first round are:
Muharraq Governorate
Constituency Six: Sitting MP Dr Hisham Al Asheeri (1,852 votes).
Constituency Eight: Ahmed Al Musallam (7,711).
Capital Governorate
Constituency One: Mohammed Janahi (2,310).
Constituency Seven: sitting MP Zainab Abdulamir (3,202).
Northern Governorate
Constituency Six: Sitting MP and deputy speaker Abdulnabi Salman (4,090).
Southern Governorate
Constituency Seven: Sitting MP Dr Ali Al Nuaimi (3,459).
As per election rules, candidates facing a run-off voting can continue campaigning until Friday.
However, all campaigning activities must cease 24 hours before the voting which will be held from 8am to 8pm next Saturday.
The second round of voting for overseas voters (for Parliament) will be held on Tuesday.
